How to Prepare Your Home for a Carpet Cleaning Appointment

A quick checklist to help your cleaning go smoothly and ensure you get the best possible results.

Carpet Masters

You've scheduled your carpet cleaning — great. A little preparation goes a long way toward making the process faster and getting better results. Here's what we recommend doing before your technician arrives.

The Day Before

  • Pick up small items from the floor. Toys, shoes, pet bowls, magazines, throw pillows — anything on the carpet that would need to be worked around.
  • Move breakable items off tables and shelves. When we move furniture, vibrations can knock over vases, picture frames, and decorations.
  • Vacuum if possible. This isn't required, but a quick vacuum removes surface debris and lets us focus on the deep cleaning you're paying for.

About Furniture

You don't need to move all your furniture. Here's the breakdown:

We'll move for you: Dining chairs, end tables, small ottomans, and similar light pieces. We place protective pads under the legs after cleaning to prevent staining while the carpet dries.

You don't need to move: Beds, large dressers, entertainment centers, bookcases, and heavy items that stay in one place. The carpet under these pieces doesn't get foot traffic and generally doesn't need cleaning.

If you want to move it: If you'd like us to clean under heavy furniture, it's best if you move it out of the room before we arrive. We're happy to help with moderate pieces, but for liability reasons, we can't move electronics, pianos, or very heavy items.

Day Of

  • Point out problem areas. Show your technician any specific stains, high-traffic paths, or areas of concern. We'll give them extra attention.
  • Make sure we can access the rooms. Clear a path from the front door to the areas being cleaned.
  • Secure pets. Keep dogs and cats in a room that isn't being cleaned, or arrange for them to be elsewhere. This keeps them safe and lets us work efficiently.
  • Parking for the truck. We need to park our truck within about 200 feet of your front door for the hose to reach. A driveway spot or nearby street parking works perfectly.

After the Cleaning

  • Wait 24 hours before removing the protective pads from under furniture legs
  • Keep pets and children off the carpet until it's dry (typically 6–18 hours depending on conditions)
  • Open windows or turn on fans to speed drying
  • Avoid walking on damp carpet in socks — wear shoes or go barefoot to prevent transferring dye from colored socks

That's it. The whole prep process takes about 15–20 minutes and makes a real difference in the quality of your cleaning.
